Who is this class for? Class sizes are up to 10 adults.
Where is the class? The class takes place in the beautiful setting of our craft workshop on our family farm nestled on the edge of Sheepleas nature reserve and at the foot of The Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
What kind of day will it be?This is aimed at being a creative day “making”. We aim to make it a relaxed pace, however we have lots to teach you. The craft workspace is spacious, rustic & surrounded by nature. It’s undercover in a former farm building with open sides, next to an open fire in a small adjacent copse. Lunch is generally cooked on the same fire and served there.
The kettle is generally always on the go - on the fire, so students can take a break whenever they feel and soak in the surrounding nature.
Aimed at beginners. Most students will be first timers, some may be returning to further practice their skills and gain more experience. Please bear in mind willow weaving can be tough on the hands, so if you have a loss of strength in your hands you may want to check with us first.
About your instructor: Jo Sadler is a highly-skilled, full-time Willow Sculpture weaver and crafter. Read more her about and our Team
Timings: We ask students to arrive just before for a 09:30 start. We aim to finish about 16:30/17:00. Depending on the group we may finish a little earlier or later.
We will guide you through the steps of making a willow sculpture of your very own.
How long will my sculpture last? 3-7 years is a reasonable time to expect, sometimes longer or less depending on the severity of the weather & where in the garden it’s placed. The life can be extended with preservatives such as teak oil.
Will I make the wooden base/metal work? No, we will provide students with a pre-made Wooden base/metal stand for your willow Hare.
Where is the Willow from? The willow is sustainably sourced UK grown Willow. The 4th generation family business based in Somerset grows high quality willow perfect for weaving. We will have pre-soaked the willow in advance of the workshop.
Reviews: “Had a lovely day making a willow leaping hare with Jo. She had all the skills required to make this a totally immersive and productive experience. She was very patient with us all and I loved the outcome of my hare I would thoroughly recommend it!"
