Frequently asked questions.
I can’t find a date that suits me.
If you can’t see a date that suits, view our full calendar list view or email us with an enquiry as we’re constantly reviewing our calendar and adding dates.
What to bring ?
All tools, equipment and materials will be supplied (for spoon carving please tell us if you’re left handed). We will be under basic cover, the workshop is rustic! It’s all part of the experience surrounded by nature with views of the trees, an open fire and fields. The fire will have a kettle on it for tea and coffee breaks. It has open sides so if it is a particularly windy day or raining, plan to wrap up to stay warm. You can warm up by the fire too!
What to wear?
Dress for the outdoors. We recommend you wear:
Layers that you can take off or add (more in winter or cold spells!)
A warm coat that you can move in, a water proof coat if raining as theres a short walk to the workshop.
Gloves, a wooly hat, scarf – whatever you would normally wear for an outdoor walk. Sometimes even sitting around a fire it can get chilly.
Sturdy boots or wellies with a good sole, there will be a fair amount of standing or sitting and don't forget this is a farm - there is mud! Trainers aren't ideal, especially in the winter or if its been wet.
Timings on the day?
Timings vary depending on the craft, please see course details.
Generally for the green wood craft course the format is:
09:30 am Arrive prompt - There is a 2 minute walk from parking to the top of the farm where the workshop is.
Morning session
Breaks happen when you need them or at a convenient time depending on your course - help yourself to tea and coffee. Take a break if you are tired.
Lunch time (for most full day courses): Aprox. mid way during the day- (when it’s natural to break) A simple, but delicious Lunch* cooked over an open fire & (weather permitting) eaten sitting around the fire as a group, subject to the weather.
Afternoon session:
3:30-4.30 pm approximate end subject to how everyone is getting on - Home hopefully with a thing!
As with some of the crafts there is a lot on learning so take breaks if you need to! The Kettle is on the fire all day, so students can help themselves and stop whenever they want or need to as above. It’s a relaxed experience but all that carving and concentrating can be tiring!
Please check course details for further specifics
*Some workshops and half day courses lunch is not included. Please check individual course details.
“I had a great day. A lovely location and great training in whittling a cranked spoon. Highly recommend you give this course a try.”
